The melody of the German anthem was creates by Joseph Haydn
before August Heinrich Hoffmann von Fallersleben made the lyrics
in 1841. After WW 2 there was no official anthem for a while, then it was decided to use Bethovens Ode an die Freude (song of joy)
what is now used as the European anthem.
During the word championship for football (soccer) 1954, that was won by Germany they started to play the new anthem. After a while all the
Germans got upp and started to sing the old one. Since then we got
the old one back. One of the line says Deutschland, Deutschland
über alles (Germany over everything). Due to the stupid political
correctness in Germany only a part of the lyrics is used because some funnies in the whole word could misunderstand it. In GB a
revolution would start if the Queen would say cut the line Britannia
rules the waves.

E:
Because that were the verses in the Anthem up to the end of the 3rd. Reich. The Nazis take the lines literally(?) (serious) and you know whats happend then.
We sing now (if ever we sing that) only the 3rd. verse.

Kczweracz—
Bratwurst, Bratwurst über alles
und ein wenig Sauerkraut
das ist meine deutsche Hymne
die ich singe falsch und laut.
Weizenbier und Asbach Cola
rauben mir noch den Verstand
"brüh im Lichte" dieses Glückes
blühe Deutsches Vaterland

I have been told that it is not allowed to use the German language unless you provide a translation. So here it is.

Bratwurst, Bratwurst over all
and a little bit of "Kraut"
this will be my German anthem
which I will sing wrong and loud
beer and brandy mixed with Coke
will get me mad, just a joke
"scald in the light" of this luck
bloom German homeland and just f**k

When you sing do you sing to which german flag? the red, black and white one or the yellow and black rainbow one? Come on now be honest lol

I would say that the problem in Germany is that "we Germans" don't have to sing our anthem daily in school. You only learn it once in the 4th grade I was told. But unless we do suffer on dyslexia we are well aware how to write our own nations name.
