Would I qualify for german right of return citizenship? |
My grandparents (ethnic germans from romania) were forced from their homes during WW2, and then they immigrated to the USA.
I would like to get german citizenship and I think I would qualify for "right of return" based citizenship. But I understand that the government has made it very difficult to qualify.
Does anyone know anything or have links to any resources about german right of return? Additional Details I want it because I feel it is my birthright. |

I think your best source of info would be the German consulate nearest you. You may require the services of an attorney with experience in this field. |

Out of interest - why do you want to do that?
It is always best to go directly to the German Embassy and ask someone there. |

Yah . . . you probably would be like a few Germans who I know who are from Romania, Russia and Poland. They took the hard road to become "Germans".
They are Germans now.
For the most part, Germans will not translate paper work for you. Like for instance, some of the papers needed to complete in these documents are only in German. It is fair. I doubt that anything will be written in English because the Status of Forces agreement does not allow me to the rights of some of the East Block people in terms of learning the German language. I know of Russians who abuse their own people to translate these German documents and sit in as translators.
Easy road . . . you have never lived in a "Lager". Probably, do not want to live in the "Lager". Some of my Polish and Romania friends lived for a year in the "Lager" to follow the road back to their so called roots or more specifically, a better future which they did not have in Poland or Romania. Many were separated from their families for at least a year to set up home, learn German and get a job. The lager is no fun.
German right of return . . . Some Germans may not be very friendly to you. Some Polish people and Romanians who I know try very hard to be German.
Sounds to me . . . you want an easy filling of papers and handing of birth right back. I am not sure the Germans will be that obliging. |
