No offense.. but, people in India are like anyone else in the world... Banglore is as safe as any other place ..
I mean look around the world there is crime everywhere.. so no one can certfiy a place as safe or unsafe.

The city has a lot of educated population, nice hotels and high percentage of people who can understand English,
So there should not be any problem .

I agree with most of the tips in the otheranswers.. You have to take care of yourself when you are going alone.

Book into good hotels, book your rooms in advance, ask the hotel staff to pick you up from the airport. Do not go alone anywhere and especially not at night. Don't carry any valuables, If you are going there to work probably the place you're going to will make all the arrangements for you. in fact insist that they do so.

If you are going as a tourist, ask your hotel to plan your trips, take hotel tourist shuttle/ taxi to go places.. let the hotel staff know your plans for the day, which places you will be visiting and when to expect you back etc.

Well, there must be some question in your mind if you are asking? I have been in India, and I too am an American woman. I went with a large group (50) people, and there were a few problems. I never really felt unsafe, but then I was never alone. I would suggest that you try and join a tour group, if for nothing more than the rates for the travel. Also, it is, in my opinion, nicer to share things with others. What if you see the most interesting thing, or exciting thing you have ever seen. Who would you share it with? It is one thing to tell people about it, but it is entirely another thing to be able to share the experience with someone else.

But if you are determined to go to India alone, then by all means go. Bangalore is considered the Silicone Valley of India, and therefore has many up to date western type services, and people in India do speak English. Good luck with this decision.

no india is not a safe place . if u want to come india don't come alone bring some bodygard also . because here so many rap and muder cases with forieners be care ful .

If you follow some basic tips, you should be safe in India.

1. Get all hotel bookings done in advance.
2. Try taking transportation from either Hotel people or the pre paid booths,
3. Avoid deep cut tops, short skirts, transparent clothing, to attract undue attention.
4. When you go out, do try and note the taxi/auto number. Also tell the hotel people when they should be expecting you.

i personally prefer using www.travelguru.com for my hotel bookings. You may end up paying slightly extra, but you would be safe. Overall India is a safe place, When you have such a huge population there are bound to be some bad people and unhappy instances, Dont worry, India is varied and wonderful, Enjoy
