Are Internet cafes widely available in India?
How common are internet cafes in India? Are they only available in major cities or can you find them in smaller cities and towns also? What are the rates typically, and how fast are the internet connections? Also, I've heard that blackouts are a big problem in India. How much does this impact internet service?
in cities like Delhi, Bombay, Calcutta, Bangalore, Hyderabad, and Madras you will not have any problem with finding internet cafes.
Blackouts are a part of life in cities like hyd and bangalore but it is not that bad.
internet service is a lil eratic but u do finally get through...
try to stick to branded cafes like the reliance or sify

Internet caffes were boomed during 2001 to 2004.
Now due to increase of Home PC and several choice of home connections the number of caffes are reduced.
However all most all Indian cities and town and many villages have caffe.
The rate is Rs. 20/- per hour. (1$ - Rs. 45/-)

internet cafes are quite commonly availabe in india, and all have broad band connection ..in remote location ypou may also have a dial up connection...
blackouts are not such a common occurances except for a few states like Bihar and UP , MP. you might encounter power cuts at times but then thats only for an haour or half...and most places ..have generator backups so u need not worry.
The cost would differ from palce to place but can cost you anything between 15 Rs. in cities to 40 Rs.in remote locations. that is maximum 1UDS at the most.

Internet Cafes are common to mostly all the places except rural India, where it is there but not abundant.
In Major Metro's you get Branded outlets like "Sify iWay" and "Reliance Web World" where the speed is ok.
Rates range bellow $1.00 per hour. It goes up to 5 times if you access it from your room in any 5star hotel.
Usually the branded cafes have power backups to cop up with the blackouts.
The best option (if you are carrying Laptop) to buy an R-Connect card that will give you wireless internet access in most part of India.

Cyber Cafes are widely available in India. Not only in metro but even in smaller cities they are easily available. I would suggest that get a membership at a reliance world store not only do they provide fast connection but can be accessed across the country. with the below link you can locate reliance world store across India. Here you need not worry about the blackout too as the all have power backups
