once it is a major problem in india. The govt has taken action on this and the snake bite reports reduced maximum leve. The snake bites are common in india and srilanka that too from remote village and hilly areas. in india the maharashtra region tops the list. There are 2700 variety of snakes out of which 450 are most venomous and the rest have no venoms. some deaths reported not by venom but by fear. of course, snake bites are more in north india and as far as tamilnadu is concerned it is reduced to some extent. It is a major problem to world health organisation. There are also more snake bite death in the other world.

Yes it's major problem of rural part of india.Thousands of people every year die because of Snake attacking.In villages the people often go to 'Bhuva-Bhagat instead of good doctor for treatment.Lot's of people can be save if villagers take the patient to doctor.

Snake bites are not a major problem in urban areas, but in rural area they are a problem. As people working in their fields, plantations do get snake bites, now a days people are aware they take remedial action, except some may die of the bite due to far flung areas to reach for medical aid.
