In general there is no restriction in India. But some places as follows have very strict restriction to take photo as well video graphy

1. Main shrine of any temple where the Diety is placed cannot be snapped and it is punishble offence
2. Airports which are under Defence control like Bangalore - HAL, Tanjore, Srinagar which are under Indian Army or any other Def dept control cannot be taken in photo
3. Defence establishments like NDA, IMA, OTA, stations, parade grounds, helipads etc
4. Important and critical River cross and Rail cross bridges
5. Critical and important Reservoirs for the case almost all river dams are restricted area
6. All government establishments like state assembly, Parliament house, President House, Governer houses, Suprement court, etc. cannot be photographed except the front elevation and far away snaps

And apart from these general restriction in pvt Shopping Malls, private temples like ISKCON in Blore etc are restricted

I think structures like Dam and other strategic buildings may not be allowed to be photographed. Similarly, some religious sites might also prevent you from taking pictures. In general, it should be OK though.

just don't worry... the rules for photography are no different from US... you may freely shoot photographs and use camcorder...

there are but not to worry they put a board near such heritage places that not to photo or simply you have to purchase a photo ticket if applicable at that place........

Pramod
There is in general no such restriction but few places where you can find such notices.

No Temples or Government buildings, but if in doubt please do ask it will be safer that way and most security guards and Police are quite pleasant and will happily advise you. They prefer it if you ask.

Photography is a great fun in India as you will have enough sunlight most of the time. We suggest you to bring enough films with you though most of the films of international brands are also available in India. In some of the monuments one has to pay fee for the photography. Our guide will suggest you where it is worth to photograph and where not. At some of the locations photography is not allowed. Do not photograph these objects otherwise your film can be confiscated.
