Both the cities are unique in their own way, from southern states of India. One can have some preferences based on certain reasons and need fulfilment. But just for the sake of saying, something illogical.
Ask on what basis you want preferences between the two cities, perhaps an ardent Bangalorian might suggest you to stay in Chennai for that particular reason or vice-versa.

I lived in Bangalore and thoroughly enjoyed it. There is a lot to do. There are many beautiful parks there and the weather is mild. There is plenty of shopping, restaurants, going to parks, looking at temples. The Southern Indian food is delicious.
I have not been to Chennai, so can't tell you anything. Sorry.
