Bangalore, of course!! Bengaluru sounds pretty old..
Bangalore as a city got its importance only after British made it their base. Before, the place existed (name is unknown) but Mysore was more important, and even Hassan and Hampi was more known. So the credit of "FOUNDING" Bangalore goes to British, and we have to respect their names. Imagine the waste of money to change all the records now, that itself is pegged at Rs. 40 crores for govt, and private sectors, even more.

If the locals are so dead to change it (its not so, a poll among literate Bangaloreans showed that 69% still wanted Bangalore, not bengaluru), let them change it in Kannada, and exist as in Italy (Rome and Roma(in italian) etc.]...

Also, there is a less popular Law by Indian govt. preventing the change of colonial names of historical importance. Just check BBC weather to see how much they respect the new names of Bombay or Calcutta...they still use the old names...they either dont care out decision (nice of them actually) or are unknown abt the change, they have more important issues to look after...

The original kannada name is BENGALOORU. It IS nice.
Bangalore is its anglicised version, & should be shed in favor of our own name.

On the ocassion of "SUVARNA KARNATAKA" the Mysore city will be named as "Mysooru".Also 10 cities of Suvarna Karnataka were renamed from November first 2006 marking the Kannada Rajyotsava day and commemorating 50 years of KARNATAKA unification celebrations.

The 10 cities are: Bengalooru (Bangalore), Mysooru (Mysore), Mangalooru (Mangalore), Chikmagalooru (Chikmagalur), Shivamogga (Shimoga), Belagaavi (Belgaum), Kalburgi (Gulbarga), Hubballi (Hubli), Hosapete (Hospet) and Tumakooru (Tumkur).
So Actually north indians may not like the new names at an instance, as they are born with the bangalore versions only & the meaning doesnot mean to them as they are not aware of the meaning even, so bangalore & bengalooru is one and the same thing, except the pronounciation, but they should see with a different aspect that if Lucknow is changed to Lakhnau or Lakhnavati or lakhanpur, that will sound good as well as meaning full as we will come to di assemble the word to retrieve the meaning, but will not mean anything for non hindi speaking areas. SO the things should follow the traditions & the names should be meaningful , if possible , showing the cause of the name. Not just like calcutta to Kolkatta - actual word is KaliKhsetra. Showing the place dedicated to Godess Kali, the area is Khsetra in skt or bangla. = Kali+ kshetra= kalikshetra.
Delhi -> Dilli = Indraprastha. and else. Mumbai= Place related to Mumba devi.

I feel Bengalooru suits well.. It reminds us, people of the city, its originality, culture and tradition, even though they have been ruined to greater extent... Atleast let the name stay....

We have accepted Chennai and Kolkata...
Well this should also go through...
