First of all, if you can let us know the kind of celebration you would like to for new year.
As you should be aware there are non-alcholic parties and alchol parties. Then there is the general get together kind of parties that is also hosted. While some prefer to spend time with their friends, while others may like to start the day with a prayer in Church or a temple. So what is your preference?
If you were expecting for parties, then the question of the budget arises? All the five star, three star and single star hotels in chennai host new year parties and may be most should be booked by now. Then apart from these star hotels, if you drive down in the East Coast Road, starting from BASERA, KKR, FOODVILLAGE, HOTKITCHEN, and other restaurants should all have some kind of a variety program.

the best place to celebrate new years might be fishermans cove... or if ur lookin for some quality time then try The Park,or Taj corromandel they have some real good events for d new yrs

Try to visit any orphanage or some Home for the aged & speak with them for sometime. You will never forget your Newyear for ever :)
