Here's how I rate it:
1) Delhi- with loads of historic sites and a great city to shop and hang out in
2) Agra- because it's home to the world famous Taj Mahal
3) Kashmir or Himachal Pradesh- I lived here! The mountains here offer the best views and, the weather and culture are great. Dal Lake and the palace at Leh are a must
4) Kerala- beautiful beaches and really nice people
5) Mumbai and the Konkan Coast- the city is great and the coastal railway offers great insight into the local culture and gives great views of the landscape surrounding Mumbai. |

I can say I have seen India from north till south. i was travelling there a for a year. This is the list of the places i find interesting and beautiful.
Delhi, Agra, Shrinagar,Ajanta-Elora, Mumai, Punjim in Goa, Kerala,Bhubanehsvar. The best for me was Khajuraho and Kanyakumari , the last poin of India. |

and all of Kashmir, except not sure I'd visit there now. Staying in a house boat on Dal Lake was a wonderful experience.

Depends how long you've got... if only a short trip stay on the tourist track and remember to respect the culture, stay safe and do research. |
