I'd suggest you to buy a travel guide called "52 Weekends from Bangalore" by Outlook. Here are the details for the same http://203.200.89.96/sfa/banguide_order.asp. You get this book in Sapna, LandMark & almost every book store and trust me, this book is worth a buy as it gives good info about weekend hangouts... As per your requirement, the following places can be visited.

1. Sangam, Mekedaatu, Galibore, Bheemeshwari {Around 100 Kms, and are on the same stretch of river Cauvery. Preferably go very early in the morning and leave before the day tourists arrive as they litter the place :-( }

2. Honnemardu. {400 kms but worth a visit, you can cover Jog Falls as well}

3. Ooty. {300 Kms, en route you can cover Mysore, GopalSwamy Betta, Bandipur, Madhumalai forests & finally Ooty}

4. Skandagiri {About 80 Kms near Nandi Hills}

5. BR Hills {If accommodation not available at Jungle Lodges, K.Gudi, then camp at ChamrajNagar}

6. Agumbe

7. Coorg {Better try various home stay options as you'll be staying in the coffee estates, away from city, do some trekking etc...}

8. Yercaud {Aka 'Poor Man's Ooty. About 250 kms and very good connectivity. Easily doable in abt 5 hrs.}

Madikeri is a great place to visit. It is 6 hrs from bangalore. Apart from that you have Gopalaswamy betta and banDipur-6 hrs from Bangalore is worth a visit. You need to go via Mysore to reach both these places. On the road to Madikeri you have Bylukuppe buddist monastery whcih is a wonderful place. You can visit Bheemeshwari -a place where Kaveri flows. It is 3 hrs from bangalore on the way to Kanakapura.

there r many places. u can go to mekedatu,shivanasamudra which is only 3 to 4 hours drive from bang...or else mysore is a better place..
