there was a river indu in india now in pakistan, by this name indu, we became indus, by the foreigner they give us name hindustani from for the distribution, they called hindu, there come hindu, people think that this is bcoz of hindu people which is not right, bharat become hindustan,

i think u dont like name as HINDUSTAIN...BUT MIND WELL ITS LAND OF HINDU AND SHOULD BE CALLED AS HINDUSTAIN AND MUSLIMSTAIN

The term used 2000 years ago was Aryavrat. (The land of Aryans). But there are debates on Aryan theory.

The name Bharat came by some king Bharat. I am not sure which dynasty, but not from Ramayana Bharat.

Hindustan was term originated by Mughals referring the regions as land of Hindus.

India came from river Indus. It was probably coined during british rule to specify land beyound indus valley.

The Mughal invaders when invaded the land east to Hindukush(undivided India),it was a land of Hindus. So,they named it Hindustan (in Persian it means Land of the Hindus). They continue to use the name until now.
The British named it India because it was a rich civilization on the banks of the Indus river.

India because beyond indus river.
Hindustan - Stan means place. For those from west, they have to cross hindukush mountain to reach this place and so that was associated with the place and as well as the religion as there was no name for the religion and it was practiced from unknown age and by almost all the people east of HinduKush mountains. Pakistan was formed only in 1947. Till then it was also with Hindustan only. This HinduKush mountain is between Afghanistan and Pakistan. Before Ourangazeeb and others thrusted Islam in this region, it was full of Hindus only. That is why Hindustan. For further details, go to Yahoo search - HinduKush
