You can stay in a village if you have friends or relatives there. Indian villages are not tourist destinations and do not have hotels or bed and breakfast kind of accommodation.
For a rustic near village like experience you'll have to visit a modified version, which would not be a village but a set up, which would provide a village kind of atmosphere. Having said this the best bet would be Rajasthan, where a lot of Star Hotels provide you with a rustic atmosphere. |
