Can a valid Indian visa on a US passport that has expired, be used to visit India, with a renewed US passport? |
My daughter has a US passport with a visa to India valid until 2010. That visa is stamped on the passport that expired. She now has a renewed US passport. Can the visa stamped on the origninal passport still be used

Yes you can travel with current valid passport accompanied with valid visa on expired passport; conditions are:
- Both the passports always be accompanied together in the first place.
- Both the passports have completely matching details about the person concerned, except the recent photograph of the person concerned on new passport.
- The new passport should be got stamped for the remaining period of its validity in reasonable time.
- Get in touch with the Indian Embassy concerned, even over telephone and apprise them of the situation taking reference number and date of your reporting them so.
- Old passport number must clearly be mentioned in the new passport under the authentication / signatures of the new passport issuing authority. |
