Tour Packages are better because otherwise you will not know how to go about. Goa, Agra, Jaipur, Bangalore and Delhi are some of the recomended stops.

I was in India in the summer of '07 and I used "Southern Travels." They were a friendly and hospitable group. The trip coulnd't have gone better. Excellent tours of the Taj Mahal, Red Fort, etc

i honestly think that traveling to India and booking something online is not a very good idea.. but if you research about the company you are booking with and ask around and know for a fact that its a reputable company then there should be no problem either.. with all the scams going on there it can be hard to find the good ones at time.. but i would also like to add Mumbai to the list of recommended cities.. its one of the best cities in India.. and Goa as well.. its a travelers city and is perfect for a vacation..
