BUSES go in front of GST road NH 45 opposite airport.
journey time is 3 hours.
Instead coming into city go to Chengalpattu on NH45 or just opposite on GST road.
No air or Train facility from Chennai

Its about 2.5 to 3 hour travel from the airport. There are quite a lot of taxi service from the airport, who should be able to take you there.
Alternatively you can find public transport, which should cost you less (if you are cost concious) - but from airport you will have to go to public busstand, which is slightly far away and you may be wasting your time, travelling in the city traffic (if you are reaching here during traffic hours)

it takes around 2.5 hrs on a taxi to pondicherry.. the best option is to call and arrange for a call taxi before u land.. they are pretty fast..
or else u can hire pvt taxi's from the airport.. they have a counter too..

From Chennai there are two routes by road. One is the ECR road which is now shunned by motorists for being a veritable death trap, because of high incidents of accidents, although it is shorter and the other one is NH 47, (Chennai-Tindivanam) and from Tindivanam take left turn towards Pondy. The Second route is preferable because you have four land roads which is safe and fast too.
