Women anywaz r more at a risk even in their hometown. Being an Indian girl myself , honestly speaking even I can't travel alone in India, my own land, coz it is really not safe. If u r a White, then Indian men r ready 2 fleece u literally coz most of them think white women r easy. Sorry but this is a true picture of my country. It's better 4 u 2 come in a group, prefferably with males. Give cold looks 2 strangers, especially men. U can b a bit friendly with Indian women. Try 2 learn Hindi & have a trustworthy, local guide or else people will charge u guys 3-4 times of what they charge us coz they think all Whites r v.rich. B sure of the current market rates of places where u go shopping so that u r not over-charged. All said and done, with all the above precautions, I m sure u will have a gr8 stay here and will luv my country. Afterall its not so bad here. Every country has its Pluses and minuses.Coz people r hospitable, food is gr8 and all our places r worth seeing and India is a beautiful country 4 u 2 explore.Have a gr8 trip.God Bless u. |

Actually. we are unsure of what precautions foreign women take while coming to India. Indian men are very attracted by visitors simply becoz they are very fair which is a obsession in India. and Indian women too face the same risks. even if we are decently dressed just that the fact we are female is enough. its better for foreign women to have escorts. but in those cases when they travel alone it would be advisable to take the following precautions.
1. Do not go out alone at night. always be with a group.
2. when attending a party with men ensure that there are other females around.
3. Find some people to stay with at home if you can rather than book a hotel suite. there are many Indian families who welcome visitors and are quite happy to show you around.
4. be careful as to what you drink. there are many cases of drug and rape.
5. and Please be cautious with strangers. and preferably come to India as a group tour. thats A LOT safer. |

It all depends upon where you go and how you behave and dress. Not everywhere it is dangerous.
It is always better to be in a group or with another person at least. |

No it is not. There are thousands of travelling and enjoying the local hospitality. What you should be sure is to not to hurt the local culture and sentiments like scanty dress, unusual exposure of sensitive body parts, etc. |

U can travel alone but u need to be sarcastic and have some emergency contacts with you like police number. And dont trust any male out there. they are kind of attracted towards white skin and in past some bad things happened with Tourist. and wear clothes according to the place if u r visiting METROS of India they r cool but if u r visiting some urban area or tow/ village u need to extra careful and be introvert. u can tour alone INdia. I am myself an Indian gal women of India are not at all bad also man but Men will be Men. While being in Metros like Delhi dont shop or roam around late night preferrably the NCR regions. Its a good place though its just take extra care and be strong to handle any kind of situation. Have a good experience, God Bless you |

I'm a citizen of India and I'm truly sorry to say that it is NOT safe for you to come alone.
Please have a male accomplice with you. If its not at all possible, then make sure that you reach India during day time. And while you are here, travel only during day time.
if you have to travel long distance, make sure you are never isolated.
Never wear any revealing clothes here. You'll find a lot of Indian girls wearing skimpy outfits, but a foreigner would be an 'easy target', so avoid it totally.
Don't get too friendly with men here.
It's not that bad.. you'll find many good people here, but you'll have to really look after yourself.
have a good stay here!
India is beautiful , so are the people... |

You could od it alone, but remeber to dress very very conservatively ie : as a local, do not make eye contact with people you dont know. And carry some pepper spray just for good measure. also learn some basic hindi so people wont think they cant take you for a ride. Whatever you do, do not, trust any strangers in case they offer to take you anywhere. |

iT IS NOT DANGEROUS, IF YOU KNOW HOW TO LIVE IN INDIA, HOW TO INTERACT, HOW TO DRESS, HOW TO BEHAVE, HOW TO GET THINGS.
PERSONS WITHOUT MUCH KNOWLEDGE ABOUT THE CULTURES, MARKETS, TRAVEL RATES ETC ARE CHEATED TO SOME EXTENT FINANCIALLY (SAY 10 TO 50 PERCENT). IF YOU ARE AFFLUENTIAL TAKE THE HELP OF A TOURIST OPERATOR, STAY IN GOOD HOTELS ETC. |

YES. I strongly suggest women should travel with a male companion in India. Especially in North India.
Visiting alone is quite unsafe and unadvised. |
