I think this is related to their culture, and by no mean this could be termed wrong or bad or inferior. We can come across people of different cultures with different attitudes and behaviors, and that shall be respected. Though it could be confusing for you, like how Japanese greet you, or how Arabs kiss the cheeks when they meet, similarly this 'head shake' is a bit confusing, I remember I too got confused when I first mate one of my coworker, he was saying yes but shaking his head which I used to understand as a sign of 'no' :) but gradually I got used to it. That is a sign of affirmation.
Moreover mostly the people you mentioned would be from South India; may be one of them who might have read this question, will shed some light. |

Have you also noticed how they frequently finish a statement with ..." isn't it ?" |

Yeah you are right, they shake their head very often but what the reason could be behind this is quite unanswerable but just for solacing our intriguing appetite I would assume this is their culture and now it’s in their DNA. |

it's somewhat funny and annoying.....maybe it's their trademark of being indians..they cannot deny they're indians when they start shaking their heads by answering "yes". |

Because Indians think that expression are as important as they speak because they shake their heads with their mouth movements. |

OMG i get so extremely frustrated by it and i have absolutely no explanation for it.
Though once a Syrian friend of mine said that if an Indian stops shaking his head no words will come out. Lol. No offense guys but is was funny. |

i think every body notice that but there is no reason i know but i related like here at Egypt we talk with hands as any one talk heshe have to make any move by hands also i think the European peoples have to make some moves with them mouth and the American make weired expressions with them faces so its kinda related to every culture so i think its kind of welcoming to be talk or sign of obedience that my analyzing to many cultures i have read about but i don't know the real reason behind that I'm waiting for any Indian to answer that |

in my opinion there is a bad smelling behind your question, Indian's our brothers colleges sisters - they are human first and last . they are the most decent people I've ever seen and they are a peacefully people they don't get themselves into troubles cause of their attitude but it seems this is why people laugh at them . we are from one god and we'll buried in one feet hole , - finally with all my respect no need to ask such questions like this - you don't know may others ask such questions against your people also ... |
