Does Buddhism offer hope and a better direction for India? |
I'm considering making it my personal mission in life to encourage as many Indians as possible to convert to Buddhism. I was born and raised in America, but I care deeply about my ancestral homeland. Here's my questions, and their correct answers:
Is the caste system clearly defended by the scriptures? YES
Is the refusal to eat beef and kill rats dramatically harming India's development? YES
Does this system involve somewhat racial aspects? YES
Are the overwhelming disparity between the rich and the poor clear remnants of this old system? YES
Was SiddhÄrtha Gautama (The Buddha) willing to forego a life of wealth to help the poor? YES
Is Buddhism a much more enlightened religion and philosophy than Hinduism is? YES |

I don't think Buddhism will necessarily make India a better nation. The Hindu influences make India unique, and it would be very sad to see Hinduism die. Changes need to occur within the government and legal system to protect citizens.
Burma/Myanmar is a mainly Buddhist nation, but it is considered to be the most corrupt nation in the entire world.
Buddhism does not solve infrastructural problems. It exists along with them, just like any other religion. |

Buddhism offer hope and direction to everybody who is willing to practice Buddhism not only to Indians.
But
Is the refusal to eat beef and kill rats dramatically harming India's development? NO
Because
Buddhism do not accept killing either Rats or Cows. |

Read your scripture properly again. Cast system is not defended the way you implying. And budhism is covered in Srimad Bhagavatam and Budha is one of the incarnation of the Lord. One of the reasons for Budha to come to earth was to stop us from slaughtering animals. WHat kind of budhist are you?
And why do you say cow slaughtering is harming India's development?
I think your original premises are all wrong so you conclusion will have to be wrong. Go get your facts right and then we can talk about Budha. In the meantime stop calling yourself a budhist, please. |

R dumb people like u allowed on YA!....oh sorry dumb people like u can only ask such questions.
Even britishers n muslims from years of rule couldnot "convert" Hindus, what a damn fool like u can do......
Hinduism is the God's Own Religion.
FYI, Lord Buddha was born as a Hindu, lived as a Hindu n died as a Hindu.
And u r speaking about Buddhism ---- It is a part of Hinduism n India.
The amount of knowledge possed by Hindus about Buddhism is far more than the Buddhists themselves.
Do u know where Buddha lived n died.
Do u know the story of Angulimaal?
Buddha revived Hindu teachings n explained Hindus more about " moksha" n life. |

You can't understand India and their ways, you are thinking as an american... and you wanting to end a millenarian religion proves it. Americans think that the "american way of life" is the only and the best, but we all have to learn to accept that we are different and that IS FINE! Poverty and differences are going to exist always, as long as mankind exist, and it has nothing to do with this or that religion or government. Is humanity, we can be as good and giving, as we can be evil and cruel. You can't make people change their beliefs just because you can't understand them. India is the beautiful and mystic kaleidoscope it is, because of the many ways of life that interact with each other. |

I applaud your t houghts on india and budhism but it will be of no use.
How can you an american get them to convert? Can you speak hindi at all?
gettting rid of the caste system would be favourable but i think india is to far gone. Theres is no helping india, its a failed state.
It cant hold 1 billion people forever to much poverty forget it.
As far as i can see all you have going for you is money because your an american.
sorry to trash your hopes. |

OK, the old system is VERY BAD. But, Buddhism is NOT the answer. Come on, if he was such a great person, why does he disrespect everyone in the world with the fat, unclothed statue that is up all over the place. Clearly, all he cared about was filling his disgusting belly. Put a shirt on! - You'll get respected more! UGH! |
