JULIE D

Does anyone know if I can actually purchase INDIAN currency (rupees) before I go.?

It is always a pain to have to change money when you get to a destination and next year when I visit India, I will be touring as soon as get of the aircraft in Delhi.

Yes my, girlfriend- much to my surprise- was able to obtain Rupees from the Royal Bank of Scotland, Bank Street, Kirriemuir before our recent journey to Goa.
I think all the big banks can do this now.

hi there shane here.
yes you can get the indian money before you go but be verycarefull as its law that you cant take money into or out ov india but who is to know if you hide the money in your wallet.

if you want to take indian money only take a small bit as in 25.00pound and make sure you keep the money in a safe place i go to goa all the time and thats what i do i take a small bit to get me started and i change what i need as i go a long hope this is some use to you. so go to any big high streert and get a small bit ov there money dont take a lot as there notes are lots and lots of notes to the pound......you will be fine let me know if you need any more help shane

large post offices will change it for you no problem!
usually they order it in and it only takes 24 hours. We had to do it for egypt.

No need to exchange from your country. Now in India, Credit cards are used very commonly. Even if you need to exchange the currency, Exchange at the airport as soon as you arrive in India. There are many foreign exchnage houses at any international airports in India.

Why not just get the money out of an ATM in the airport, it's by far the cheapest, easiest way, and only takes a minute or two.

I guess the easy way is to pay an Indian in your currency through paypal and then receive your payment less the transaction charges from paypal in indian rupees. Being an Indian ,I can suggest that.Even through ebay's paisapay option I think you can do that.If you want more info you can email me at sonal@raceaheadproductions.com or spangoriya@yahoo.co.uk
Ofcourse Money exchanger shops must be there in your place too.But I believe through ebay.in it will save you time, money and energy and be the safest option.

so_classy
Of course you can, try Citibank they manage almost all currencies.

Anyway, my advise is that you carry a small amount in cash and buy a money order payable in rupees for your safety, this advise applies to any country you travel to, not only India.
