Right through the year, the drive should be good: except in winter months, you should expect a lot of pilgrim traffic! (sabari Malai Ayyappa devotees, mainly!) Start on an early morning from B'lore, take the Salem route: In about six hours, you are off Coimbatore: lunch, if you like, in Coimbatore, or do one more hour for Palakkad: lunch, and see Malampuzha dam, theme park, and/or, some temples and brahmin villages in Palakkad: recommend Thrissur, two hours away on your route, for night halt: There are a few places of scenic beauty in and around Thrissur; if interested in Guruvayur, that temple town is just about 28 km away from Thrsr! fairly good accommodation, some options to choose from. Early next morning, weigh anchor, proceed either on main route to Aluva (Alwaye) or, choose the Kodungallore route, with a little time budgeted for Cherai beach (sea shore, on the coastal road -- town for that is Paravur, which you can bypass: but do go to Cherai beach): from Cherai, you could proceed to Ernakulam, the main down town area of Cochin city, on the coastal road. There are some good places to see in and around Kochi: plan the night halt there! Variety of hotels to choose from, in Kochi area! Early next morning, proceed on the NH heading for KanyaKumari, which is about 330 km from Ernakulam, via Thiruvananthapuram! By evening you will be in K'Kumari, unless you want to halt in Trivandrum, the capital town of Kerala, and do some more sightseeing! Towns right through the route, so reasonably good food, and facilities for car wash, fuelling etc. Language no problem. People are used to tourists these days, all along this route! Approx distances: B'lore to Combatore about 360 km (6 hrs): thence to Palakkad 42 km: to thrissur 75 km: to Kochi again 75 km: and thence to trivandrum 230km: finally to K'Kumari about 85 km (all approx). Have a good trip! |
