india great place especially kerala. there are great beaches in kerala, also the people are quite cultured.But as soon as u land at any indian airport , beware of local cab operators ,tour agents and pretty much anyone around. They would loot u , if u have any left after crossing the airport customs. Corruption is everywhere and only and indian can get u around. Better u fix up a known Indian friend to manage your local itineray.
Sri Lanka is also lovely place, But u never Know where a Bomb would go off , its so terrorist infected. Any and every place in srilanka is unsafe due to their ethnic strife, and even the locals do not feel safe in their own country anymore.

Food can be spicy, but I found India to be less spicy but having more flavour than in the UK.
Can't help with Sri Lanka, but regarding India, you should be happy with your choice

Sri Lanka is much more beautiful than mainland India, although it doesn't have as many of the cool historical landmarks, like the Taj Mahal. Yes, the food can be very spicy at times. LOTS of curry and cayenne!

I stay here in near Delhi in north India and have been almost to whole the country.
Its a fascinating place to be. Kereal iin particular is green bouleaward. You should visit Varkala (hottest place in terms of foreigners in India) and you will find it better than Goa (the most publicized place for best beaches in India).

You should also stay in boat house in backwaters of Kerela found in city called Alleppey. That will be lifetime experience.

Food is spicy you should mention if you want it to be less spicey to the food vendor.
