Have you watched "Monster's Ball"? Is the life of all Americans like that -- full of poverty, racism, etc? People outside America may see on TV the scenes of people of New Orleans asking for help on their rooftops with their houses submerged under water. Is all of America like that? There are so many movies that show the cities full of crime and poverty, but that is only a part of the country that a movie is based on. Same is true of Slumdog Millionaire.
India is one of the fastest growing economies of the world. It has its problems, but it also has its positives. There are Indian companies that make cars, steel, oil, aircraft, space equipment. There are Indian engineers who fulfill the need of not only India but the whole world. India has sent a mission to the moon. Do you think all this would have been possile if the life in India would have been so awful as shown in this movie? Mumbai where the movie is based, is one of India's and in fact world's largest and most populated cities. It attracts more people from elsewhere who come here to seek opportunity, and find it. You will find slums there, but also world's richest people. More movies are made in this city than anywhere else in the world. Do you think all this would be possible, if there were only slum dwellers in the country?
I think we all need to think outside the box, and not base our opinions on limited perspectives we have of some places, countries, or people. |

slumdog millionaire has depicted life of people living in slums of Mumbai. It does not show what is India. like all the countries there are poor and rich and super rich and that exist in India also. India as a tourist and industrial destination is one the finest.so is the diversity of languages and hospitality. India rural and urban mix is one of the highlight.you should not conclude India by a movie |

All the Indian people say that it shows this horrible side of India. This film really shows the improvement that India has gone through in the last 10-15 years. I remember in that scene when Salim and Jamal were on that construction skyscraper and Salim points to a building and says"that is where our slum used to be, and look at it now. India is becoming so big." this is when he meets Salim for the first time in 10 years. So people need to learn from this and improve upon it, not just say India is not like this. Indian people OPEN YOUR EYES!!!!!! |

"Hindi" people? You do know that Hindi is a language not an ethnicity right? Anyways, to me the movie is kind of controversial because now lots of westerners think that EVERYONE in India lives like this. The truth is that some do and some don't. The population here is huge! Of course there are dirt poor people living in the slums like the ones portrayed in the movie, but there are also really wealthy people and then some in between. |

Well there are poor people, there are kiddnappers who blind kids so they can beg for money, there is a chance someone's brother will turn into a selfish gangster, but for Jamal to have all that he would have to have the worst luck in the world. So, no, not really. |

Let's just get one thing clear, all the rosy and gory pictures that people draw out India to be is just plain fiction and Slumdog Millionaire only shows parts of India where the slums and the underworld are the main focus. If you look under the beautiful tourist blankets of any country, you'll see the real people (not actors) who make up a country. So if you want to know what India is really about, I suggest you take a vacation and visit.
p.s. just don't expect to see any maharajahs or shy little sari-clad girls roaming around, coz you'll be severely dissapointed. |
