i stayed in a fairly touristy area of india but travelled quite alot so saw lots of different aspects of the country
firstly i went in mid february and it was incredibly hot and dry
the smell in the markets was very strongly of fish and the roads were very busy, overall i found it to be a bustling and loud place.
the markets were incredible, very busy and selling very interesting things
the sea was very hot, like getting in bath not in sea!
the people were generally very friendly, but i think it had quite alot to do with being in quite a touristy place, they were used to the english
it is an amazing country, well worth visiting, a trip that is very memorable! |

Traveled a lot in India for my work. Good place, very modern in cities, good food, inexpensive for tourists, relatively lesser crime against tourists, good hotels and good people.
But the roads are awful and cities are littered with garbage and sewage...takes the charm out of the place. |

One word "ineffable".
In a single sentence "It is a place you will have had to be born to understand it".
For an interesting piece for reading, refer to this article by a Consul General of India in SF.

i've settled in india a few years ago. living in God's own country, kerala got to be the first place i've ever felt homesick for. unfortunately the developement seems to go towards extreme materialism and risks to change too much the traditions and habits. after all the colonisations finally free india is getting the slave of tourism. let tourists come and learn from your culture but avoid changing your customs, habits, traditions to make foreigners happy! |
