India is a great place to visit. For new and repeat visitors, it would be advisable if you plan your jouney beforehand. To enjoy most, you should decide whether you wish to see cities, man made wonders, natural beauty, country side, mountains, sea/ocean....or a blend of them. All the places are great but needless to say nature's view is awesome everywhere. Himalayas to Arabian Sea or Indian Ocean, plains, mountain ranges.... or big or small cities with malls to shop/hang out, eating joints, entertainment spots, cultural events....all have the touch of Indian hospitality, taste and flavour. Do match your time of visit to the prevailing weather conditions in your selected place of visit in India to multiply your enjoyment.
Visit well planned, see for yourself and enjoy your trip to the fullest. |

Well I grow up in India. So if you are American I would suggest you to visit Mumbai. also Gujarat, Goa and some other state deepening on your interest. But keep this in mind stay in Mumbai if you are American. Because you would not like to stay in other state. |

Down south its better. The People are much more disciplined. Kerala has beautiful beaches, mountains, bird sanctuaries, temples, just about everything.
entire country cant be seen even in a month, so pick one geographical location (south India) and try to see as many places of your interest in that location.
Eg IF South India(i love that part 0f the country) is you destination you could fly into Chennai or Bangalore and visit OOty, Mysore, Coorg, Munnar, thekkady, Kanyakumari, Pondycherry, etc in that vicinity. Even in this location the places are not really very close and flying would be a better option between cities if you have the budget.
If possible ALWAYS book at least for on night in advance so you don't get ripped off by touts when you land.
Bon Voyage |

i've traveled to india several times and really enjoy new dehli - lots of shopping and a big city feeling. also it's close to the taj mahal which is one of the seven wonders of the world! calcutta is interesting, and mumbai (bombay) is nice for tourists, as is goa, a popular vacation spot for locals. i also enjoy pune, just four hours east of mumbai. very nice climate and people :) |

i was born in India and lived there for 32 years before moving to the US.
The whole country from the Himalayas ( Hill Stations ) in the north to the coast ( temples, ancient civilization ) on the south and from Kolkatta ( the gateway of the Europeans ) in the east to Mumbai ( Bombay , Bollywood ) and Goa in the west is worth travelling. What exactly are you looking for in India ? Perhaps, I then can be more specific. Thanks |
