I came back about 2 weeks ago, but first you have to say where your going.

I went to Madras and it was pretty warm, unseasonably actually concidering it was only about 80-90 degrees F.. maybe a little higher than 90 some days, while in New Dehli it is much much much hotter than that.

If your gonna go there only drink bottled water, I wouldn't worry too much about street food as long as its cooked, I eat it all the time and I grew up in the U.S.

Where a hat if you want, I don't like hats so i didn't but my mom did yell at me (i'm 15), you'll definetly get a culture shock thats for sure. One of the most surprising things I found was trafic, well A) they go on the opposite direction compared to the u.s but thats not the big deal

Theres approx. 1.2 billion people there living in a place around the size of texas or so and just because the economy isn't booming, doesn't mean people don't have cars. So it will be very very very crowded roads, yet the thing is, is that that won't stop people, many people have mopeds, and WILL squeeze into any small place as possible, even if its in front of a huge bus. The Auto's are always there, all you do is give them a signal and they'll stop, the problem is is if you don' know how to speak the language they can't understand.. most anyway, but you'll probably get through that.

I had a blast, but it vary's from person to person, I would like to spend my life in iIndia while my friends hate it and can't even spend a month there. Just have fun, go site seeing (I love looking at forts but thats just me) have fun and everything, tell us where your going though if you want more specific details.

oh.. btw. I'm assuming you were born and raised in america, sorry if I made the wrong assumption

i come from india and the place is GORGEOUS

you will love the chaos, the colours, the contrasts in foods / lifestyles / weather.... everything about the place is just fantastic

although a few tips - strictly drink mineral water - be careful what you eat - a drop of water with the germs may make you ill for days !! the heat can be a bit overwhelming for westerners so keep drinking water and make sure you have some mosquito repellent cream

good luck and have fun !!

Welcome dude!! After your trip you will post in this forum you liked India.

Yes, for you...drink only bottled water (your digestive system is not immune to the common drinking water).

Try all good foods, and the best food in India is the street foods.

If you stay till Nov 15, you will see the festivalof light, that is Deepavali. Oct end you will see Dashera...if you visit to the east, Kolkata Oct 18th to 22nd will be Durga Puja.... the biggest festival of that region.

India is great. been to Goa, first time ten years ago, and have been there 8 more times, you will love it, have travelled to lots of cities in India, Goa is my favourite, next to Goa is Chennai, and Bangalore, but Goa is a chill out place, the other 2 are a bit like home from home, too staid. but one thing i can guarantee is, you will love Goa

I've been twice to India and ventured up to the foothills of the Himalayas. I went both times in October where the weather was just beautiful.

Like every other country, India has its good sides and bad sides. The good bits are the prices; it's very cheap, up north the scenery is awesome, the people are so curious but nice, was welcomed everywhere I went.

Bad bits: the traffic is the worst anywhere in the world. There's lepers and beggars everywhere, street children, hawkers and just strange people on every corner. There are mosquitoes, of course, and lots of dodgy food. I love Indian food and have eaten it for over 25 years, yet I still got the runs. God knows why - but the food, unless you go to a decent restaurant, will always be suspect in terms of quality.

Prepared to have your senses attacked at every turn of the corner (I am referring to the major cities, Bombay, New Delhi) and get ready to be jostled and bumped in to.

If you can hack all of the above, then you will have a fantastic time in India.
