Henna art for hands/arms?

What's the difference in Mehndi Henna, Arabic Henna and Indian Henna? Do the drawings include writings or symbols specific to certain Middle Eastern/Indian languages or cultures? Are the drawings different in content when they're applied for special occassions versus casual everyday wear? Also, are there different colors to choose from, or is there just a standard color of henna used? Which henna art is identified most by the people of Bangladesh? Thanks!

Henna comes in only one shade, natural henna stains from orange to deep brown depending on a variety of factors. There is no natural black henna!

the differences in henna are the more traditional designs. In Islam, most of the patterns are floral or geometric with no depictions of people or animals. Indian designs can contain paisleys, birds, bride/grooms, animals and other things. IN the Middle East the word is henna, while in the Indian subcontinent the word for the plant is mehendi. That is the only real difference. In Africa, they tend to use more bold, geometric patterns. Yet it is the same! :)

In regards to Bangladeshi culture, since it is predominantly muslim, I would recommend not including people/animals and nothing written in Arabic or Bangla unless you know for sure what it says and does not have the name of God or the Prophet Mohammed in it.

Have fun with it! Henna is a great experience and looks beautiful!

There is no such thing as neutral henna. It is simply another plant used for hair conditioning such as cassia obavata. 'Black henna' does NOT exist. If coloring hair with a certified natural and organic hair dye described as 'black' henna it is indigo powder, another plant dried and crushed used to dye hair, or a mixture of henna and indigo. It really is a misnomer and misleading to call it black henna.

Once again there is no such thing as BLACK HENNA!

I recommend visiting the website www.hennapage.com to learn all about it!

OKAY... FIRST OF ALL.... ALL HENNA IS THE SAME!

THEY ALLLL come from the henna plant, they're all mashed up and stirred...

contrary to popular belief, all henna is the same...

but, theres

nuetral henna- gives no color, used on a hair to soften and give shine.

black henna- harmful to skin and body... should not be tampered with.

red henna- used to color hands and hair, giving off reddish-burgundy dye.

some people, for hair, buy different colored chemical henna which is not as good as the real one and may screw up your hair color.

all in all, all henna is the same.

HENNA DESIGNS IS A WHOLE DIFFERENT ASPECT.

henna designs differ region to region... arabic designs are small and intricate.

indian and pakistani henna is larger and has pretty details...

LAST OF ALL, MEHNDI IS THE OFFICIAL WORD FOR HENNA IN INDIA AND PAKISTAN... so its the same thing, the names just different..

hope i helped.

mehndi henna must just mean indian henna b/c it's an indian word. Arabic henna never has faces, or animals, and usually is either geometric or flowery and involves lots of open space. Inidan henna is more like a lacy glove. Indian henna powder is more reddish but still brown. Moroccan, jamila, and yemeni are more just brown. Bridal henna is usually most intricate and more significant patterns. Casual henna is much less covering. Dunno about bangladesh but there's a henna expert on www.hennapage.com's forum. She can help.

tss
