You can go to Jammu by the Jammu Tawi Express that also goes by the name " Swaraj Express "

It starts from Mumbai and halts at Nizamuddin also with the final destination as Jammu Tawi

From there you can take a bus to The Kashmir Valley
Any tour bus is good enough but make sure that it is a well known company or else you may be in danger

Best time to go there is during early January when it is pleasant and you can even see the last of snow

You can also go by bus,
Then any tour operator will take you there from any place in India

But when you go by train you get the experience of both bus travel and Train as after Jammu you have to take a bus

The Train will cost a little bit more but it is worth the experience

How do you expect correct advice on this matter?

When you want to know how to get to any destination you need to mention your starting point of a journey. Anyway do not miss the road journey from Jammu to Shrinagar via the Barnala Pass it is very picturesque. Only sometimes the pass may be closed due to land slides.

You need to travel by railway till Jammu ( The last station is not Jammu but Udampur- but most of the long route trains go upto Jammu only).
From Jammu you can travel by bus / jeep / private car ( available on rent basis).
Alternately you can fly to Shrinagar i.e. Kashmir. Many airlines have services to Shrinagar. They do take a halt at Jammu before heading to the valley.

For Kashmir u can get Train upto Jammu and then you have to go by bus, if your are going first time, u will really enjoy travelling by bus.

I feel you should neither go by bus nor by a train. There is a lot of danger these days, bomb blasts, terrorists, etc. I think you should go there by a plane. The rest is up to you.
