Bombay (as it will always be to me) is a lively, fun city but also very safe as compared to all other Indian cities.
Like someone here mentioned, you should take some care while there since there are some people who may be out to cheat you. Some tips -
1. Never carry too much of cash around.
2. Don't eat food from road side carts
3. Drink bottled water only.
4. Dress on the conservative side - no shorts/ tank tops etc to avoid any lewd remarks
5. Don't try to give money to beggars.
6. Avoid deserted areas and late night travel, even in a cab. If you travel late night, try the local trains which are not crowded after 10 pm. And always travel in general compartment instead of ladies compartment. (The local trains run upto 2 am in the night and start as early as 4 am.)
All said and done, you will find that people are very nice and helpful. Infact if you find someone troubling you and raie alarm, you will usually find a bunch of people coming to your aid (It has happened to me often, and I was a local!) |

You'd better watch the Coca-Cola commercial in which the Indian restaurant tries to loot a Japanese customer by adding double zeros to the prices on the menu. That's Mumbai! Actually, wherever you go in India, they try to exploit you! |

Mumbai is perhaps the safest city in India. It is a lively, modern, friendly, and helpful place. It is also a happening place. It used to be polluted some time back. These days, not as much. It has the best medical, banking facilities in India. This city is also called the financial capital of India. |

have you ever been to a stadium where world cup match is going on!! it is crowded and everyone is excited. but if you calm down youself and see you will find people sweating and pushing and pulling each other at times to see the fans and then you will feel the need for fresh air. |

The city of Mumbai in its present form resembles more like a dustbin.
75% slums are enuf to ruin anything good that is attempted to make Mumbai clean.
It is so overpopulated - over 1.25 crores!!
you will find spits, dirt, rubbish scattered whereever you go.
The roads are all dug up. The traffic can move only at snails speed - thanks to ever incresing vehicles on so small and so few roads to accomodate them. The traffic signals are not monitored and do more to incease traffic congetion than to simplify it.
No one will come to give you for a helping hand, should you be in trouble.
It is a dangerous city.
Quality of life in mumbai is negative .
You may find money in Mumbai but its not worth. There is no life in MUmbai. There is no peace. there is no rest and there is no satisfaction. |

Madam, Mumbai is a safe city. but be careful to conduct yourself in a nice way. If you make any suggestive gestures you are likely to get lewd remarks. As far as pollution is concerned, some areas are definitely polluted. If you are allergic to pollution then bring some medicine with you. Please let me know what type of details you desire. |

i just came back from mumbai 2 weeks ago and wished i spent much more time there. didnt notice pollution, legislation changed most taxi and rickshaw fuel to lpg. it is not dangerous compared to most other cities anywhere because it is full of indian people who are generally lovely. maybe some people try to make money out of you but where in the world does this not happen? it is, however, really expensive- be prepared. i get annoyed at the 'never give money to beggars' attitude. i ALWAYS give money to beggars, london or mumbai. a couple of coins is nothing to us and every thing to someone who doesnt have. do you really need to get something back when you give? go to mumbai, you'll love it |
