To Start with The Government should need to Know What the tourists want. There are different types of Tourists comming to India. Not most of them are rich. They come with certain amount of money and have a fixed budget. We have Very High quality hotels in Big Cities. What we lack is proper Simple affordable , Safer Staying places and good quality food at reasonable costs for the people who come to remotest tourist places of India. For this we have to make some plans with local people Who are willing to accomadate them in their houses. We must teach them, What common facilities they need to accomadate foreigners, and the stable food for the foreigners. Most of the Foreigners like Indian food But less Spieceier is Preferable. These are simple things which can be taught. The Government also give subsidy for these people to develop facilities. So that the Government can have a list of People in a Particular Tourist spot who can accommadate foriegners at a reasonable cost In the long run it will help both of them. ( The Foreigners as well as the host) This is the area if it is properly planned will do lot of economic revolution in small towns of India. |

decrease crime, get a stable (non corrupt) government and a stable (non corrupt) private business sector.
create businesses and attractions that are appealing to the western world.
finally, market your attractions in europe and the US.
americans will not travel to a place where they don't feel safe and comfortable. historical sites like the taj isn't enough to get most people out of bed. |

My suggestion would be to inform the rest of the world about the diversity, both geographically and culturally. I would imagine most of us in the west all have a similar picture of India in our minds, quite a barren, overcrowded place. It is important that India shows itself as ready for the 21st century by presenting your modern cities and well educated, cultured population for the world's attention. Perhaps a worldwide advertising campaign with Indian stars? |

There is ample scope for tourism in INDIA.The most beautiful country in the world is a paradise for the tourist.India is rich in its custom, tradition and culture.Rich hospitality, peace and security and the very liberal cost of living etc are most favourable condition for tourism.
Better commercialisation of tourism as industry and providing better infrastructure facilities for transportation and communication and sufficient guidance ,vast advertisement etc will be an added advantage.
Perhaps, somebody may point out constant hartal and bandh as an impediment in the way of promoting tourism. But tourist are also enjoying the hurdle in INDIA . |

Every Indian who interacts with a foreigner should say or do atleast one thing which will have a lasting impact on the foreigners visit to INDIA. Being a country so diverse in terms of language, cultures, religions, food habits, clothing, art forms etc etc etc, each Indian in his or her own way can state one GOOD thing about his / her country which makes the foriegner's stay here memorable, make them visit again & again and lastly make them your Ambassadors for future visitors to travel to this country. Word of mouth coming out of actual experience from a visit to INDIA will travel far & long to make INDIA the destination to never miss. It should become a MUST VISIT at least once for every human life on this planet. Lets get them to come here and experience our exquisiteness & exuberance. |

We can increase tourisim in India through highlighting historical places and natural beauty places through advertisement. Small booklets with goodlooking shots on people livelihood will enhance the interest of the people to come to our country and visit places they have seen in the booklets. |

ha!! what funny answers, sounds as though none have been to india.
india is far, far safer than america! there are areas of america that i was warned not to go to because of racism against white people and guns being fired. as a single woman i spent one and a half years travelling safely around india, in the 70s and i went back in 06 and spent another 2 months there and loved every minute.
what india isn't doing yet, is advertising on television in the west, or not in australia anyway. if they showed footage of some of the lush mountain scenery of the himalayas, the lush and verdant green foliage of the coconut palms and canals of kerala, scenery from the many national parks, magnificent temples, colourful people and festivals and so on, with enchanting traditional music....this would entice people to visit. this is a large part of the reality that is india and as you can see, some people imagine india as "barren". for those that know india ,that is quite amusing.
so i would say ADVERTISE, as there is a lot of ignorance about this marvel of a country.
yes, it has poverty, yes it has dirtiness and lots of people, and its own eccentricities,( which every other country has too)
but it has friendly, helpful and courteous people, plenty of accommodation, good food , tropical fruits, and if you are a westerner and you don't wish to travel in crowded conditions, you can afford to rent a car with driver, to take you where you want to go. prices are very affordable.
i hear there is a 1 month music festival in chennai, from mid december. i hope to go there for that, this year. |

India has such a huge potential of tourism traffic that if directed and managed in the right way, it could be standing at no.1 tourist spot. Every four parts of India has to offer completely different flavour in terms of language, food, places to see and ofcourse such different experiences caters to all various kinds of tourists. If I like mountains and spiritual experience, I would head towards himalayas, so on and so forth. But this dream is a little bit too far to achieve. Considering that we are not very tourist friendly place. The tourist remember being cheated by touts, a ratio much more higher than any other place. I had a very long time back had taken some friends around in a big city of India and they were 'stared' at so many times, that I was embarrassed. Ofcourse they also had experiences of helpful(read 'over-helpful people), shopping, food, etc. But a white skin to us means 'rich'. And we are focus on getting whatever euros/pounds/dollars/etc we could extract from. The protection levels are not so be saluted. Still everybody wants to come to see India, ebing exotic and all. But let's atleast start offering them the basics - safety, security, friendliness and respect. |

In dot points, some of the following suggestions might help:
#1 TOURISM PUBLICITY - its not only foriegn tourism, internal tourism should also be improved by propagandas and publicity - like tv ads, newspaper, internet, other media etc.
#2 GOVERNMENT SUPPORT - it would be great if the government can support tourism financially. thus it will help itself to create revenue through tourism.
#3 ATTITUDE - public attutude towards foriegners should change. this means that we as a community SHOULD STOP STARING AT OTHERS.
#4 IMPROVE INFRASTRUCTURE - although many places have been well developed, many others remain untouched - eg - rishikesh. one is abashed to see such pitiful condition of such a religious place.
#5 IMPROVE BARGAINING POWER - bargaining power of those underpriviledged should be incresed so that our economy thrives and the world as a whole realise our unity and be excited to visit the 'golden bird'.
Last but certainly not the least
#6 BE PROUD OF YOUR LAND - being proud of one's country is certainly one important factor that contributes to increasing tourism as the world will know that if people are proud of their country, then they should visit it. DO NOT BAG ABOUT CORRUPT POLITICIANS. instead talk about the increasing diversity and the rich cultural heritage of India.
If these precautions are undertaken, i certainly believe that tourism should improve in India |

Hospitality is one of the key features that we must possess to promote tourism. Also the tourist places must be kept clean. We should provide enough security to the tourists.Good accommodation, food and clean drinking water must also be provided.Tourist should be given more enlightenment on the various tourist locations in India through the media. |

Tourism can be increased by improving the following :-
*Infrastructure
*Air and rail-road connectivity to the tourist spot.
*Maintaining hygiene at the international standard.
*Honest and knowledgeable travel guides should be made available.
And the most important thing is that begging in place of tourist importance should be eliminated. |

I believe Education i.e literacy has the power to overcome any challenges. For instance if we have to promote India to World as a tourism destination then make the people educate first . Let them more polised and mannerful so that they can mingle with global community and then it will be matter of time when WORD OF MOUTH promotion will spread and will create a better image of India. The other promotional activity like Govt of India's INCREDIBLE INDIA or IT image also spreading the wings and the show must carry on . |

To establish a unique identity in Indian Tourism, Like a tourist can get something exceptional which any different country can not offer on that, maybe lowest price, maybe every kind of sights(sea, mountains, falls, desert and so on together), may be safety of the tourist(which we need to workout). to develop the tourism in lifestyle to the consumer which maybe some promotional mix strategies can offer.
Kind of slogan can be used like " Tourism means Incredible India" |

1. Indians should themselves understand that foreigners are also normal human beings and not objects in a museum/zoo to be stared at.
2. Indians should try and keep our surroundings more clean.
3. Indians must realise that Tourism is definitely going to be future of India, not IT. It is just a matter of time that other East Asian countries offer cheaper BPO facilities. However, no country can match India for its diversity, culture and people. Tourism is going to be our biggest asset. So lets start respecting and welcoming the tourist. Not the present welcome accorded by rikshaw and taxi drivers at airports. Having said that, we should also not be slaves of tourists. Treat tourists as a guest, but from the same bench.
4. India has the maximum tourist products, but is nowhere near the best tourism destinations, who with little resources manage great number of visitors.
5. Should start a marketing campaign worldwide, somwhere on the lines or better than the one initiated by Kerala Tourism.
6. We must realise that our culture is our best ambassador, stop aping the west and let's remain Indian as much possible, even after embracing the modern tech's.
7. Open tourist information centres all over India, with guys who have real product knowledge. What is badly missing in India is authentic information. |

A. People themselves should be made to realise the importance of their own heritage. Then only will they treat tourists well. Pride in your own culture/legacy should reflect in the attitude of people towards tourists visiting their towns, villages, cities.
B.Get organised. A tourist visiting India should have easy access to hotels, activities in any part of India through the net itself.
C.The facilties should be upgraded to worldclass level. No restrooms and dirty hotels can never entice tourists. |

1.Explore more tourist spots:Currently there are lot of tourist spots in India ,which are not exposed to Indians itself.
Identify the tourist spots and promote those new spots through ads, tourism operators and offers.
2.Develop Internal tourism:First India being a vast country ,we can develop Internal tourism and creat some revenue and use that revenue to beutify the spots more.
3.Advertise internationally:Now like what singapore and malaysia does, promote internationally through ads and other concession offers .
4.Promote some NGO to keep these spots neat and clean.
5.Provide little more security to the tourist spots and appoint local people as registerd tourist guides to generate local employment as well and also to avoid unauthorized guide who cheat foreign tourists.
6.Making the visa process for Tourist little easy and transparent and more customer friendly.
These are some points for improving tourism in india..I hope still more points can be added. |
