I also travelled from Delhi to Mussoorie this May. Do not go via Haridwar. There is a bye-pass towards the left after Roorkee. You will reach in 8 hours. Via Haridwar it will take another two hours and if you get stuck in jam at Haridwar, you may lose 2 more hours. On your way back, you may come via Haridwar-the total journey would be from 10-12 hours.
The journey between DDN and Mussoorie is hilly so you need a reasonably experienced driver with slighly stronger arms or atleast a car with power steering. Drive to Kempty fall (35Kms) is slightly more laborious.
Cars are not allowed on the main Mall during day time (7am to 10pm). You may have to alight at the begining of the mall and walk 150-200 metres to a suitable hotel. The driver will take care of the car and bring it to the hotel after 10pm. In the morning, you may get a permit for Rs.100/- for exit after 7 am.
You must stay at mall only. Do not go further up. There's nothing there. .......
The overall experience to Mussoorie will be more or less the same thru all means: Tourist Coach, Train,Cab or own car. If you are travelling with family then a hired cab from Delhi would be slightly better. The roads are not bad at all except the one of Kempty falls where you will lose 20% thickness of the tyres(own car not recommended for Kempty falls). |

Road between Delhi and Mussorie is Reasonably good. You may comfortably cruise at aspeed of 80 kmph, except some streches. If you take route via Haridwar which is slighly longer, you can make a stopover at Haridwar and enjoy a dip at Holy Ganges. |

i studied in mussoorie couple of years back. you can get a taxi cab frm kashmiri gate in delhi, or a bus frm ISBT or shatabdi express from hazrat nizammudin. The road is good but there are few places where the road narrows and some places are quite congested too. |

The road between Delhi and Mussorie is good, except for some stretches. I think driving is a good option. The other good mode of transport is to take the Dehradun Shatabdi from New Delhi Railway Station which will take you upto Dehradun. From there you can hire a cab or go by bus to Mussorie. |

Road is good. Delhi-meerut-muzaffarnagr-hardwar-ddoon-... It takes about 8hours.
But better option is shatabdi delhi-ddoon (there is a overnight train also). Doon-mussorie is just 1 hour by road. |

Hilly Road, from Dehradun to Mussourie requires excellent driving skills and very fast reflexes. It gains height quite abruptly, with sharp hair-pin bend and at places quite narrow.
Unless you have sufficient hill driving skills, please do not venture in to driving.
There are night buses from Delhi to Mussourie. You can travel to Mussourie by bus. Another alternative is to travel by Shatabdi Express, which leaves in the early and goes up to Dehradun. It reaches around noon. From there you can travel by bus or taxi (Shared taxis are also available) from the railway station or the bus stand, to Mussourie in about 1 1/2 hours. If you travel by taxi, it will drop you at the Picture Palace stoppage( one end of Mussourie), whereas, if you travel by bus, you can reach the Library Point (the other end). Both the places are good.
For you return, you have many options, which you may decide after enquiry |

me and my husband travelled by road to mussoorie in may. It took nearly the whole day and the road is not too great. I have been by shatabdi and think thats a better option. Go till dehradoon and the trere are lots of taxi's waiting. U will enjoy more when u reach relaxed. If u want to see other places around in mussoorie the u would need a car, if u just want to stay put then take the train and enjoy urself. |
