It depends on which part of India you are in and what period of the year!

The monsoon season starts around end of May and continues right upto November though officially the end of the season is in Sep-oct. South India continues to face rains right through November - December.

It is not the rains it is the administration of the civil management of such situations which is more important in the rains! Of course global warming in recent years has caused the annual rainfall patterns to change.!

India, can never be considered generically....
Most parts of India has the monsoon between June/July till Sep/Oct...

Most westerners look to visit here between Sep and May...... A lot of the places you would like to visit are reachable during this time....

Higher places in the North, trekking and the sort in Himachal pradesh etc cannot be done between Nov and Jan end.....

dude..its monsoon season starting in june to september, with the occasional outbursts in october. the rain feels amazing..simply beautiful to observe. but its a season that has a price..mud all over your clothing..fungus on the walls..you may catch a bad cold due to the draftiness and the fact that you are always soggy, and the insects are not to be reckoned with. i would never go in monsoon season, and i would totally skip the summer (starts in
march, goes up to the point where it HAS to rain). best time to go? dec/jan/feb

It really depends what season you are going to india
If you go in the warm seasons like july then there is a
really chance of getting heavy rain
