Undoubtedly, you should take either prepaid auto or taxi from the New Delhi Railway Station at such at odd hour. Pre-paid booths are operated and maintained by Delhi Traffic Police and what ever charge is required, is printed on the slip, which you are supposed to hand over to the driver on your reaching the destination. Never pay even a single rupee extra on any pretext whatsoever.

You can take taxi, 3 wheeler of 4 wheeler. You may choose DTC's night service, if available. You can hire private taxi. You may get buses from Indian Airlines Office at Janpath.
You may change from Daula Kuan. You can go to DK from NDRS.

The best option is that if you have a friend or relative in Delhi who can drive you at that odd time from the New Delhi railway station at 2 am. It will be easier for you to get a taxi at the time from the station itself but it will take a long time. So, try to be patient as Delhi unlike Chennai is very unpredictable and can take a long time for you to get to the airport or anywhere in Delhi. Good luck on your trip from Delhi to Chennai!

The best and safe way for you to go at that odd hour would be to take a pre-paid taxi right at the station.

The safest thing in Delhi at that time of the night would be to take a pre-paid taxi. It is not advisable to take an Auto or a non pre-paid taxi.
Or if you have contacts / friends in Delhi you can ask them to book a car for you, the driver can pick you up at the railway station and drop you off at the airport.
