How do I get the student concession from Indian Railways?

I am a student of Indraprastha University (IPU), Delhi, studying in JIMS. My friends and I are planning a trip to Goa. How can we get the 50% student concession offered by the Indian Railways.

PS: if u have any cheaper alternatives than the railways lemme know ....

Well every college has a application form for filling for students concession. It has to be submitted along with the booking slip. But i want to warn you that you only get students concession in 2nd class trains in only Sleeper Class. !st class trains are like Rajdhani Express, Shatabdi Express, Garib Rath, or any other special trains.

You have to get the concession form duly completed and signed by the College, get the same attested by the nearest railway station of your place and submit the same to the Railway Booking counter while booking the ticket. You can also get student concession from Indian Airlines by producing the concessional form issued by the college.

The college/school will have a form for railway booking which will need the Principal's signature on that. On presenting this form & your college id you will can get the concession. But as somebody said above, you will get concession only for the sleeper class & not for the a/c class.

You need to get a letter from the school or college that you study in and submit it along with the booking slip to the counter. You might be asked to show your ID, keep it ready. Dunno how this works from net based ticket booking.

Cheaper than railways, would be to hitch-hike, seriously that's the only alternative. Be aware of the bi-sexual truck drivers. Just kidding.

Fill the required forms and have them forwarded from the University office , then go and book your tickets. Enjoy!

i don't think..this student concession applies to travel whole of india. this is just for commuting between your place where you live to city where your college is,

Yes. The concession does apply no matter where you travel in India. You have to show your university id card at the ticket counter while purchasing ticket.

you shall get a concession form from your college. also you can get a permission letter from the college stating tht you are a college student.
