Direct buses from many parts of Tamil Nadu and near by states ply directly to Ooty. Trains are available from Mettupalayam to Ooty (enjoyable but takes nearly 5 hours). Buses are also available at frequent intervals from central bus stand Coimbatore and Mettupalayam. The distance from Coimbatore to Ooty is 97 kms.

ooty is about 8o kilometers from coimbatore
u have to travel via metupalayam .

From coimbatore u can travel by bus which avilable frequently
u can also travel by train(hill train) from metupalayam but it takes longer time
so my best option is u travel by Bus.. LOL

Apart from coffee and tea plantations, Ooty is also dotted with trees like conifers, eucalyptus, pine and wattle .

There are many places that are a must see in this hill station. Botanical gardens, Mini Garden, Rose Garden, Deer Park, Mudumalai Wildlife Sanctuary, the Mukkurthi Peak & national park, Nilgiri Library, Ooty Lake, St Stephens Church, Doddabetta and Government Museum are some of the major attractions in Ooty.

As I went to Ooty in June 2006, I think u will get a perfect picture with my answer

Comining to Distance its around 90 to 100 km from Coimbattore and 50 km from Mettupalayam which is the starting station of the ghat section.

If u take bus service it will take around 4 to 5 hours to reach but the thing which frustrates u is waiting to catch the bus in Coimbattore, as u will find a very big Q waiting for Ooty Buses, u need to wait at least 2 to 4 hours for that bus and after u get in it will take around 4 to 5 hours depends on the driver and condition of that bus, but one thing, as its the dead cheaper way to go to Ooty from Coimbattore.

If u prefer Train, first u need to go to Mettupalayam from Coimbattore as u dont have direct trains from Coimbattore and from there, u will find an old Steam Engine Toy Train the same train which u had seen in "Cheyya Cheyya" song in Dil Se, n which is so cute that u may not wish to leave it even if u reach Ooty, but the major disadvantage is it starts at 6 am in the morning and have very few bhogies which will be always full, If u want to catch that train my advice is to be in Mettupalayam Railway Station by 5 am and reserve a window seat as u will enjoy the senic beauty of Nilgiri mountains, It will take u to Ooty within 5 hours, just imagine ur covering 50 km in 5 hours means how much slow the train will go, but it dosen't matter if u love nature, those 5 hours also will be very less for u.

If u prefer Taxi, that is the best way to reach there within less time, yeah by Taxi u can reach Ooty from Coimbattore within 3 hours but its a bit expensive.

Now its ur turn to choose

But my advice is to go by Train even if u need to stay in Mettupalayam for a day also, If u want u can go around and c some places in Mettupalayam also and stay there for a night to catch the train the next morning

Its about 120 Kms from coimbatore to Ooty .
From Coimbatore if you take a taxi , you will have to pass through Mettupalayam and from there the ghat road to Ooty which is about 6500 feet above sea lelvl.
You can also take a heritage train from Mettupalayam to ooty .
Coimbatrore to Mettupalayam is about 50 Kms.
There are also local buses from coimbaotre to Ooty whcih is the cheapest method of transportation and takes about 3 hours and the same from ooty to couimbatore. if further detaisl required cotnact nadayara @yahoo.com

Ooty is 90 Kms from Koimbatore and it takes about 3 hours by cab.

It is about 50-60 kms from Coimbatore. It is well connected by rail and road. There are frequent bus services from Coimbatore. The train service is infrequent. You can go to Ooty, from Mysore also.

If you are driving up, go via Kotagiri (right turn after the bridge at Mettupalayam), Conoor, Wellington ,Ooty.
Better road, less traffic, more scenic.
