Good place, Vellore: good hospital! A bit hot in summer! Nearest rail station is Katpadi, on Chennai-Bangalore or Chennai-Coimbatore route! Chennai is about three to four hours by road/rail! Pilgrimage center, Thiruvannamalai, famous for Arunachal temple and Ramana-ashram, is about two or three hours from Vellore!
