You will haggle but unless you know stones you will probably get burned. You may even buy a nice piece of glass or fall for some well established scams. Unless you are prepared to pay top shelf from a reputable dealer then forget it. Buy off the net. You will have a better chance.

most gemstones are not overly expensive anyway....but, we have been to India quite a lot & whilst i find the diamonds cheaper there....the gemstones are not & if you are a tourist...you will be charged more than the locals anyway.
