Like for precious stones.

You will haggle but unless you know stones you will probably get burned. You may even buy a nice piece of glass or fall for some well established scams. Unless you are prepared to pay top shelf from a reputable dealer then forget it. Buy off the net. You will have a better chance.

most gemstones are not overly expensive anyway....but, we have been to India quite a lot & whilst i find the diamonds cheaper there....the gemstones are not & if you are a tourist...you will be charged more than the locals anyway.

if you are looking to buy...why not have a look at gems tv's website...it is www.gemstv.co.uk .... they sell very good quality gemstones at great prices.

depends on where and what ur exchage rate is but if u go to a rural area you can get it quite cheap by haggling

Why don't you try Sri Lanka? I think you could get them at good prices in Sri Lanka - but you gotta know what you are buying otherwise easy to get cheated.

Much cheaper then in the UK, for example i got a white gold and diamond ring made in Goa and paid £700. I got it valued in the UK and it is worth £1500

It's very expensive for the average Indian. So is food.

P,S. I see i've got a thumbs down. Presumably that's because someone doesn't like the truth.
