How old do you have to be to climb mount Everest ?

Everest straddles two countries - Tibet and Nepal. The vast majority of climbers tackle Everest from the Nepalese side as this provides access to the most common and easiest routes and the country itself is much easier to get to. Tibet is a notoriuosly difficult country to gain entry to.

The Nepalese government have imposed a minimum age of 16, the Tibetan authorities (not government as the government is currently in exile in Dharamsala) have not imposed a minimum age.

Due to the political situation in Tibet the minimum age for all intents and purposes is 16.

Just to clarify an earlier point... The youngest person to have summited Everest is Temba Tshiri Sherpa a Nepalese Sherpa who was 16 years and 17 days old when he summited in 2001. The youngest female to have climbed Everest is Dicky Dolma from India who reached the summit in 1993 aged 19 years and 35 days. The record for the oldest summiter was set in 2002 by Japanese climber Tomiyasu Ishikawa at the age of 65 years and 176 days and the oldest female is another Japanese climber, Tamae Watanabe aged 63 years 176 days.

There is a claim Nepali Sherpa Ming Kipa is the youngest person to have climbed Everest at the age of 15 years and 19 months but this has not been verified and would in any event, have been illigal. There have been many claims of Sherpas aged 14 and 15 summiting Everest but none have been able to validate their age.

The month Australian Christopher Harris is attempting to reach the summit and if he is successful he will become the youngest person to do so at the age of 15 years 9 months (he is approaching from the Tibetan side)

Old enough to walk; I have a 3 year old
nephew that might make it.

i dont think that their is a age requirement, because i read about the youngest person to climb mt. everest, and she was 15.
Have you ever thought about climbing Mt.Mc Kinley in alaska?????

age is not important. The most important thing which you have to know is amount of your body readiness for such a climbing.

there is no age barres for climbing mt Everest because if have a will there is a way but i think that up to the age of 65 it can be restricted.
