I traveled to India for the first time this past winter. I traveled mostly in South India, starting in Bangalore, then to Mysore, through the Ooty Hill area, Kochin and Udiapur. I was in the Nagahole State Park and traveled by Bus into many small towns. I then traversed to the East coast by air to Chennai and proceeded down the coast and inland to see your magnificent temples and art centers. I spoke to everyone I could, watched dance performances, stayed in 2 private homes and was treated with great caring and respect. Most of the Indians I met were extraordinarily helpful and kind. I was amazed at the sense of respect they had for themselves and others despite their caste or financial situation. I deeply respond to the peop[le in India, their genuine hospitality with strangers, their sense of family unity and culture. I felt troubled by the lives of women and the hard labor they must do in the small towns or villages while their men sometimes sit by and watch. I worry about the long term affect of "progress" on India. Major highways being built are dividing the ancient pathways between villages, telecommunications will have good and bad effects as here in the us. I love India and Indians that I met. You are a remarkable and beautiful culture and I hope I can come back and learn more from all of you..This year maybe.

Dear Peace,

I think this is the most homely and warm place in the world if you dont get into the wrong places. Do try comming to our country and avoid the hot tourist spots where there are people trying to con you all the time - you will fall in love with this place.

Hot, humid, and wonderful. Then again, I could be biased because I'm an American desi.

I suggest Goa or Kerala if you're taking a trip there.

yup Im an Indian but Ive never lived there, but Ive been there like 10 times and its great, theres just too many ppl on the roads and everywhere else. but its really awesome and warm, if youre traveling to India u should defenetly go to Manali, its a hill station in Himachal Pradesh and its the best place ive ever been too, and Ive been all over the world!!
