I'm 18 and my parents are thinking about moving to India? |
We live in the U.S., I've lived here all my life. My parents want to go back and live in India. Either Goa or Bangalore or maybe look around more. Can anyone tell me what it's like living in either of those two places? As much info as possible? I'm nervous..I don't want to end up in a third world country...I know it's pretty modernized in Bangalore, but I don't know about Goa. Any info at all would help A LOT Additional Details We live in the U.S., I've lived here all my life. My parents want to go back and live in India. Either Goa or Bangalore or maybe look around more. *also, I cannot stay back. The reason my parents are wanting to move is because they both have serious health problems and they have been working extremely hard for many years and now they just want to relax. My dad cannot work anymore because he has 90% kidney failure and an ulcer on his foot (diabetes) so he cannot walk properly. My mother has leprosy, and she doesn't think anyone will higher her. I dont want to leave my parents and make them move alone. Whatever they decide, I'm going. I'm excited to go and travel somewhere new, I just want to know which city would be best. |

Of the two places Goa is only for sight seeing for a few days. You can not settle there and live permanently. Bangalore is the best place climate wise. It is a cosmopolitan city and people re good I would have straight away suggested Bangalore but for the Medical facilities available. I am in Bangalore and the medical facilities for the ailments of your parents are available but they may not be good enough.
So I have to suggest you Chennai - here best medical facilities are available otherwise it is the worst place, Hot climate, Worst people, cheats etc.
Hence you decide between BANGALORE and Chennai-

Hi i am sorry to hear about all the problems, i understand the dilemma you are going thru, i'll try to help you see what i saw from your posting as an onlooker to your problems, i have friends who were born the US and got back here and fitted in damn well, firstly ... the 2 options you parents have chosen are very good, i 'd give bangalore a A+, i live in a different city though, goa is a fun place close to mumbai, mostly tourists, and you would feel in place there too, why i is say bangalore is tops for you, cos its one of the most rapidly modernised cities, your parents need medical care, and it is pure quality down south, vellore, chennai, bangalore ... all very good, best of docs and most reasonable prices, i am not sure if you know, but people across the world are seeking medical help in India, due to quality care and cost effectiveness, i am sure there's other place sin the world to go to...but theres nothing like coming back to your home, to your roots, i assure you , you will find people warm, welcoming and helpful and sensitive to your issues, you're 18, you can look fwd to great college life, yes things will be different from the us, the curriculum, the things around college, but you may actually like it, we have good educational institutes here, from where students graduate and are selected to work inthe best of firms across teh world... so cheer up and look fwd to a bright new life...prioritze what is essential as of now, and you will see you made a correct choice , when you are older and wiser and look back on your choices ,.. and just so you should feel better , leprosy is curable ... and with god willing your mum is going to be fine, prayers for you , your mum and dad ...welcome home, friend ... |

Dont worry friend.... india is always fascinating place to live and study and enjoy... i know abt bangalore pretty well... it is the best place to live and work in india... however abt goa i dont think so it is good place to work and live... it is good place to visit and have a fun... since i am not in bangalore... however, if anybody offers me to go and stay all over again in bangalore i would be the happiest person to live there... because i lived there for many years... good luck dont get disheartened... india is a best place to live.. grab ur chance |

From the jest of your question it sounds as if you are Indian. If you are then your parents will have no trouble but you I am afraid a culture shock awaits you. There is no place like America on the Planet... just like there is no place like India either. It is not going to be easy for you but you can accomplish anything you want. America should have taught you that lesson. (I am an American retired here in India). I would suggest staying away from Goa. Bangalore is much more trendy and probably will be more compatible to your needs. |

I think you have some very valid concerns that will only be resolved with accurate information. Are there any relatives there with whom you can correspond? Have you tried a relocation agency that can give you specific information (not hype) about an area to which you want to go. You can also contact the International Chamber of Commerce which could give you information. If you do go to live with your parents in India you will need to understand how they will adapt to the standards there that may not be your idea of being a teen or young adult. Will you have to change your behaviors and attitudes related to boy-girl relationships? How will you meet people your age? Culture shock is a real thing and almost no amount of preparation will keep you from experiencing it. You may want to start University in the US and visit your parents in India - until you decide if you want to live there. This, I think, will be a difficult adjustment for you so you have to get a lot of information. Also, talk to your parents about why they want to go there and what they will expect from you. At 18 you do have the right to make your own decisions as an adult, but of course, there is so much more to it. |

I am sorry to know about the health problem of your problem. yes... Bangalore now called Bengaluru, is modernized and has very good climate but little expensive. Goa is a good option too. There are lot of foreign tourist. The average temperature varies between 25°C - 30°C. The cost of living is low in Goa compared to Bangalore. |

I am British but have an Indian mother (who came to Britain age 10). I went to India in 2004 and 2006.
Haven't been to Bangalore. It's quite high-tech but pretty boring I'd imagine.
Haven't been to Goa. It's a cool holiday spot. You'll meet lots of tourists.
If you work hard, you can get a lot further in a first world country. Try to get your parents to see the US and India as two machines. The US is the technologically-advanced machine (better universities, training, jobs). The same worker is more productive on the American machine. |
