Darjeeling, East India:
Situated at 7,000 feet (2,135m), Darjeeling is a bit off the beaten path, but worth the effort to visit. This pretty resort built among tea plantations is one of the cool hill-stations. Half the fun of visiting Darjeeling is getting there. The famous "toy train" huffs and puffs and climbs to the top (though it's not always in service; the road is just as scenic). Darjeeling is home to the Himalayan Mountaineering Institute, a training school for mountain climbers. There's also a zoo, botanical gardens, two Buddhist monasteries, a racetrack, and a cable car. |

Avoid anything that is like yoga. It's not good news believe me. Go see the sights....I don't know what your budget is like, but the Taj Mahal would be cool; the southern tip of India....Mysore (a city in state Karnataka) has lots of cool things to see including a palace. I live in India six months every year and India is never lacking for things to do and see. Have fun! |

Two weeks is a good time to explore the southern part of India. There's the beaches of Goa which is a very touristy place. Further south of that is the big IT city Bangalore and there's Mysore which is city of flowers and palaces.
Go further south, you have hill stations like Munnar, Thekkady and house-boating through backwater rivers and canals of Kerala. Then you have more hill stations like Ooty & Kodaikkanal where you can see tea and coffee plantations and then Chennai if your into shopping for silks.
Damn! Looks like I recommended stuff for more than 2 weeks here.....Hope you enjoy your trip and have a good time. |
