I am 65 and am traveling to India for the month of Feb. What shall I take to wear? |
I will be working in some fishing villages with the people there and want to show respect for their standards and lifestyle. I will be among Hindu and Christian people. |

From your question, I can assume that you are coming here in the southern part or in the eastern part of India where there is not so much cold. Moreover when you will come here, there will be spring season and winter will be saying adieu to the the people.
So, you need not worry, just come here with normal clothes with half sweters and shawls. It is bette taht you should buy these clothes from here as these things are cheap here. In the southern and eastern part of the country the average temperature is approx 25C, so you need not worry. I am also assuming that you are coming here for the first time, so giving you a Warm Welcome |

Sir,
It's all depend in which area (place) you will be moving in India. As India is a vast country and have different types of ambient at different place. please let us know the names of the places.
Again, Feb will be slight cool in plains but pleasant in near sea sore areas. |

Depends on how far north you plan to go.
Generally this is the best month to be in India. Over 6000ft a small light wind breaker. For everywhere else just medium to very light cotton. Material for pants and shirt approx. $1-$2 and to have them sewn about the same of a little less. You really do not need to bring much more than the clothes you are wearing when you arrive.
Bring a sleeping bag sheet with you. A simple single or queen size (if you are a large oerson) sheet folder over and sewn down the sides and across the bottom.
Be very careful 99.9999% are thieves and liers here. When doing business especially transportation always set the price first. Most eveyone here will charge you double so cut the price in half. Bargain, bargain, bargain. Ask the locals what they pay for things. Always get 3 or 4 opions especially when seeking direction. Remember Indians will always give you an answer even when they do not know the answer. |

My suggestion to you is:
- DO NOT wear too many gold/silver chains. One chain is enough and the people will steal valuable items.
- Respect all and local customs in India and also respect the areas you visiting.
- Take the advice from the Govt. of India of which areas are banned from foregin travellers.
- Take down the local Consulate or Embassy or High Commission of your country with you if you have any problems and KEEP A PHOTOCOPY of your passport & the visa number with a neighnour or close family member. |

The answer given by Quantum is bogus and not true. It is very strange that he is doing buisness with India and then critisizing it also. The fact is India is a nice country and the only problem is population.
Bring very less items on your trip because every thing is so cheap here that you can easily buy them when you come here. |

Coastal India is always hot and humid especially if you are travelling down south places like Chennai, Kochi, Cuddalore, Pondicherry etc.
Temp in Feb may by comparitively moderate Max may be 35`c and min will be 28'c in these places. Only cotton T shirts that thin will do better along with a half pants will be best.
Shoes are optional in India due to the environmental conditions as well as cultural expectation |

I suggest that you don't take such fancy or really good clothes because it is not that clean there. I also suggest that you're ready to MAYBE end up coming home with a bit dirty clothes. Well, If you want to show respect and all, I think that you shouldn't wear jeans because people in villages don't have a lot of money so they won't really be used to seeing people in jeans. Overall, take comfotable clothes that aren't THAT fancy but still try not to take jeans. oh, and by the way, I think Quantum is over-exaggerating, India isn't as horrible as he explained, It's actually a very exciting place to be! |
