Take Cipro in case you get sick. Just tell your doctor and he'll give you a prescription. Don't drink the water, even ice. My husband was there for 2 months on business in Hyderabad. He didn't like the meat. He wished we had packed some of those vacuum packed pouches of tuna, stuff like that. |

I work in India 20 weeks a year. So my answer is not that of a tourist. Big hat and sunscreen are essential after February but you can buy those there. As you can buy anything else you may need. So my advise is be very broad minded as not everything you see is quite what it seems, also Indian people are quite shy sensitive, but very big hearted and will be interested in you so be open and you will get rewards. There are those who will pray on tourists / forigners as with anywhere, and those who seem quite rude but the rudeness is not rude to them just different because there is so many people personal space is not observed for example.
Have a great time i'm sure you will.

what absolute nonsense...
It's true it depends on where you're going but it looks like you're going on holiday so I suppose you'll be going to nice places where the infrastructure is good. If you're going to touristic places, just be careful to eat and drink in clean places only. That means not from street vendors or restaurants for the poor!
For the rest, it's common sense on what you should avoid.
Take cotton clothes and one pullover and take some things for the poor - pens, sweets, soaps, etc., things that are given away free in the West.
Don't talk to strangers and dress conservatively.
The food is delicious, the people are intelligent and the scenery is beautiful, outside of the cities. |

I lived in Udaipur, Rajisthan for 12 months between 2005/6 and loved it all. I didn't need any imodium + or anything else. just took it steady - not straight into well water and I watched what I ate. But after 2-3 months I was able to eat & drink what I wanted. So I guess it depends how long you are there. Don't be put off trying stuff though, for fear of getting sick. But I would recommend anti Mal tabs! Especially after/during monsoon time!! ps: the people are great - and personally - I would talk to people!! |

Hi
if you are going in the next few months bare in mind is going to be v v hot! My advice is to make sure you have some re-hydration sachet/salts. I could not digest their "masala salt" water and tea, although it's very very good for you (but taste of rotten eggs....). Also, get a good guide/driver/car.... v worth your while.... |

Hi i was in Goa last April this was my second visit to this region and we had a great time you will need to get a visa and see the doctor for jabs, you will also need repellent for the Mozes but buy it out there it is a lot cheaper and better than the english version, you will not be able to drink the water use bottled i must admit i did eat the fruit and salad with no problems all the food we had was excellent either from local stalls or cafe or restaurants,we had no problems with sickness or any other tummy trouble. we hired a car while there that was very different than driving in England but was fine after 20 min they do not seem to have a highway code the only law they seem to have for the motorist is there horn must be working apart from that they will drive around with bald tyres and bits hanging off the vehicles i hope this will help you. |

My fiance lives in India, and I live in the USA. I can tell you practically anything you need to know, as I have been from one end of North India to the other :) Take mosquito repellant, PLEASE!!! The first time I went, it took almost a year for the mosquito bite marks to leave my skin. Do NOT drink the tap water there, or even brush your teeth with it. Use bottled water for drinking and brushing your teeth, and make sure you buy the water from a reputed store/kiosk. Some people sell tap water, but you would know, because the seal would be kinda loose. Take long sleeves cotton shirts and pants. Keep a photocopy of your passport and visa in your hotel safe, or on your person, just in case. All in all though, you will love it. The traffic is nuts, and the natives stare at you if you are a westener or a foreigner, but they are sweet and the food is good. Enjoy and feel free to write with ANY question.

i take plenty of Mosquito spray for starters. i take Immodium tummy tablets in case you get an upset tummy..which very often you do in India.
and...i take some Rehydration sachets (Diorylite) to top up your body with essential vitamins & minerals...its very good.

I've just got back from 3 days in Kharagpur. Got Delhi belly but I'm sure it wasn't the food. Most amazing cuisine you'll ever try. My advice is take instant sanitising gel for your hands. Most likely cause of upsets is touching door handles, shaking hands etc. Drink bottled water only and make sure meat is cooked thoroughly. If going to rural villages take pens, pencils, etc for the kids. Smoking is big in India. If you want to make friends take rolling tobacco and show them how to roll their own ...... hilarious !! Enjoy your trip. |

Advice from an Indian tour guide was avoid meat and take advantage of the most delicious vegetable curries you will ever taste. I took this advice and absolutely loved the food and didn't get ill at all. My most favourite country and can't wait to return. Have a great trip. |

I had a 2 week break in the golden triangle, staying in 3 and 4 star hotels, if that is any help. I found most needs could be supplied. I found the food to be excellent. Although I avoided meat I didnt need to in the hotels. The best advice I got was drink plenty of water (in sealed bottles) and drink it regularly to avoid stomach problems. It worked for me as I ate curries the whole time I was there and was fine until I had a hotel breakfast back in England after which I was on the loo for 2 days.
Watch out for places who sell bottled water, but it is just a refilled bottle using water from the tap. Always make sure your bottle is sealed. |

Yeah i know several people who just returned from India from seperate trips. You will need something to calm your tummy, if they let you take it on the plane. Also something to stop the runs - if they dont let you take it buy it there. You should also know the value in your homeland currency of things you might like to buy because if you dont look indian they think you are Rich and WILL overcharge you for anything. So practice at home converting Rupies to your currency in your head. They all had a great time by the way, so have fun!!! |

Take simple clothing, nothing to extravagant and a spare pair of comfy shoes/trainers. Things are cheaper there so if you need anything, you can get it from there, twice as many underwear. Mosquitoe repellant etc, ask your GP wat to take. Do travel light though. |
