Don't bogged down by pre-conceived notions. Just see around in the country you are living in. What kind of life, people, traditions and culture you have there, you will have much larger variety in India in some different shades and colours.
As you will have liking for particular kind, shade or colour there and still existing happily there among all, in India the same rule would apply.
It is your openness, heart, mind and reasoning abilities which would make you enjoy and have fun in India.
You can have all levels of life in India depending on your pocket and willingness to spend. Each area/region has its own traditions and culture yet living in harmony, this make India's unity in diversity. Variety of food is awesome. Nature has blessed India with plenty of resources, places and weather conditions. It is rare on this planet to have a country like India with no matching anywhere in the world on many aspects.
Come, enjoy and explore for yourself! |

If you are not very worldly you'd better study up and put on your helmet!! India is amazing but VERY intense for a westerner if you have not been around 3rd world countries. |

I'm from south India and lived there for more than 25 years (since birth) so wish to offer these things.
India is great country to visit and experience. If you travel it would be none like any of your visits before to any other country.
But if you are born and brought up in western world, who has not seen any India-like countries, then you must be aware of some facts.
* India is still developing country. Unlike developed west-european or north-american countries, you don't see good public facilities out there.
* Usually people are nice and friendly, there are lots who wants to cheat you and get some bucks from you and no country is out of this type of people (they are shame to any country). So you be aware and try to get some before information about the place you visiting about how to move around without asking much.
* India still uses squat-toilets and use water instead of tissue paper. So if you are not comfortable with that, you better carry some tissue paper with you. But these days many starred hotel has Western-type toilets. So you would have problem only if you travel out of your hotel.
* Indian cities does not carry any charm in them so don't have any expectations to see clean and garbage less city like in developed country. Having this expectation may help you adjust better.
* India is huge country, about 1/3 of US area wise and has huge population, about 3 times of US. So don't expect to see many places without many people.
* Many tourist places offer packaged tours. Would be better if you choose one of them instead of exploring on your own for easiness. But if you wish to explore on your own, that would be trough but really great experience.
Hope you have a good trip and if you face any impolite Indian (may be one of few less % Indians), pl forgive India. |

India is a great country to visit, it's tropical, unique, has great wildlife, and is dominated by vegans. But if your not used to this kind of country your in trouble. |
