well i haven't been to india since 18 years...so i am not an expert..but from what my family members say things have changed drastically... it seems that going to India is not the same experience it was back in the day....
malls, hotels, fancy restaurants, dance clubs/bars...all these things have developed there...which makes the experience of India less unique because you can find all that stuff here...
I am sure that the magic of India still resides in little cities and towns....you should definitely visit those and you will get the experience that you are looking for! |

12 years is a long time for any place. Do expect changes but then " the more things change, the more they remain same", I believe.
Mumbai :
you will find many more people crowding all over. New roads, flyovers, more chaos, Bandra-Kurla complex, new building. But many old places are still the same. Mumbai spirit remains the same.
About Kutch:
Last time I was there when the earthquake happened. I have not visited recently but kept track of happening. Kutch is new happening place, it seems. |

well if you have not been then be ready for a shock, very modernised and very expensive , still lot of poverty but lots of money too , even the ordinary residents have lots of money to spend , and show off, heavy traffic, pollution, too many people and very hot - Enjoy |

Dont bother with Mumbai frankly speaking. There every second person wants to carry a mobile and wants to speak american english. In the last 12 years it has become less attractive for tourists but the locals feel they have made lot of progress because it is becoming more like a western city now than before.
One thing you will notice straight away is that the place is very expensive especially the hotels and shopping. Jamnagar and Kutch should be fun but also changing for the worse. |

there is a lot more stability, there is much development.(roads, streets, better buildings) people in india are starting to use common sense but then again everyone likes to prey on foreigners so be careful. |
