Hi,

the distance is 758.36 kms; given the terrain, it will take a good 15 to 18 hours. Will not recommend your doing this trip on a single day, unless your car is in top condition and you have two drivers to take turns and rest in between while the other is driving.

The route is mostly on NH17 and good for most parts.

I would recommend, your taking a night's halt at mangalore. Many other posters have already given you info on hotels to stay etc., and i will not repeat.

however, i would like to share a site, which will help you in planning your route carefully.

type Panaji and pick GA and click on the search button; you will get Panaji (of course, you can start from other locations in Goa too); then click on from here link and enter Cochin and pick KL and enter; you will have your full route mapped out. You can zoom in and zoom out to get a better feel of the entire route.

If you travel by road the distacne between Panji to Cochin is 842 km and and i think it takes 16-17 hrs if the roads are good. I don't know the exact route but its not very difficult as it mentioned at road side. For hotels and all you can visit this site and book hotels. http://www.holidayclubindia.net/
