There are enough trekkingroutes around bombay. u can try trekking to matheran from neral, cycling to alibaug from new bombay & so on..
as far as grouping is concerned, better make ur own group. for the places close to bombay, even 3 is a good enough group.

If you can get company and go to Kodaikanal, its perfect for both trekking and cycling as the road surfaces are very well maintained and cycles are cheap @ Rs10 per hour. But only go in off season like right now, otherwise it is very crowded. In winter you will never feel tired there as it is cool and fresh. It is also a safe destination for a small group.
Handy
fiest of all you need to have very strong legs for both. check that first

There are several groups and clubs undertaking this activity in Mumbai as well as Pune. You should decide what exactly you wish to do and then join the relevant groups.
One of the best way is : enquire at Youth Hostels situated in Parel ( just near the fly over bridge while going from Elphinston Road railway station on western railway towards East - say KEM Hospital etc). They are having various branches in Mumbai city and few of them undertake this activity earnestly. 1st floor in Swapnapurti building is the state headquarters of YHAI. Youth Hostels conducts various treks all over India. I am a life member of YHAI since several years and had participated in many, many treks.
Few people in my area (Virar ) are into cycling seriously. They had been conducting those trips and tours. I can enquire with them if you are really serious about cycling. Please email me ( nbgin61@yahoo.com)
Please feel free to keep in touch. Several times we enjoy treks all over India either through YHAI or through our group, too. I can inform you whenever we arrange a trek or hiking.
Wish you happy moments.
