You can visit Alibag.

There are ferris which go from Gatway of India and it takes 45-75 minutes to reach Alibaugh. From there you can visit any beach in Alibag.

Also there are good resorts like Tikuji ni wadi;

National Park is a very good picnic place

Evershine park in Thakur Village is good relaxing for parents and grand parents

Its depend how much time you want to Travel. if you want to travel by car then you can opt for Silent resort located at manor. 90 minutes drive from Mumbai. You can also visit Manori beach Island located in malad marve beach (from marve you have to take ferry & then Rickshaw) . Cottage to stay available in front of beach. if you do not want to travel much then the best option is National Park Located at Borivali Highway. Nice & Peace atmosphere with lots of greenery.

If you are looking for some fun & masti then go to esselworld/ water kingdom.

On Western Railway : Arnala ( a beach town ) is great option. Has several accomodation and food options, easier to travel to, reasonable expenses. Cbeach Resorts is one of the best places there with lots of green spaces, great food. For their contact details do visit their website ( cbeachresorts.com). Arnala is connected to the last suburban railway station of VIRAR.

There are no great options on Central Railway ( except a distant and rigorous Matheran / Lonavala / Khandala ).

Alibaugh is another seaside option - easily reachable by boats as well as road. Bit costly and hectic travel if you are going by road. But many places to see and experience if you have your own vehicle or so. You can travel till Murud - Janjira areas from here easily.

If you have got more than a weekend, do visit Mahabaleshwar. Cool climate, many food options and tourist spots abound. Plan to be here only if you can spare more than a couple of days.

Wish you happy moments!
