Sardar doesn't fall under caste since the sardars are shiks not hindus.

Caste is a social system applicable to hindus....much like the medieval Europe where there were Serfs, Noblemen, clergymen etc. But Sardars are people who believe in Sikh religion and Sikhs do'nt believe in caste system, as it discriminates among people. Basically in present day parlance, anybody who wears a turban and professes to Sikh religion is called a Sardar. Present Prime Minister of India is a 'sardar'......Mr. Manmohan Singh.

Generally males of Sikh fath are called sardar. However, in many other areas the name sardar are used, such as important political leaders, military and religious officers.

In Afghanistan and Pakistan, many Pashtun, Baloch, Sindhi and Brahui tribal leaders are called Sardars.

The caste system is pretty much gone from Hinduism and India, and if it is practiced, it would only be in very rural areas and villages.

"Sardar" is a Sikh term and so would not fall under any caste. It means a male follower of the Sikh religion.

Sardar are from respected Sikh Religion.
They carry 5-things as per Religion hence called Sardar:

1. Kaccha (shorts)
2. Kara (Steel white bangle)
3. Kirpan (sword shape knife)
4. Kesh (long hair)
5. Kanga (comb)

5K = 5 fingers of hand which folded make a fist as a unity for Sardar or Sikh people.
