I think India would be a much better place to travel in than Pakistan: safer, less censorship, freer movement for women, much better treatment of religious minorities (Islam will be treated far more respectfully in Indian museums, media and popular culture than will Hinduism in Pakistan).
Most people find the south a more pleasant place to travel. I'd start with Kerala, and then, Tamil Nadu. |

On arriving in Delhi you could contact state tourism departments of Rajasthan, Madhya Pradesh, Maharashtra and other states for packages and information.
Better to go through India Tourism Development Corporation or State Government Tourism Departments.
If you are interested in architecture and paintings go to Ajanta and Ellora caves in Maharashtra, Ancient temples of Tamil Nadu.
For natural surroundings and backwaters, go to Kerala.
For beaches, good fish and port wine go to Panaji, Goa
For deserts, Rajasthan,
nd so on...... |

Well, if you really wish to enjoy, I would recommend staying in youth hostels. I am myself a travel freak who has recently explored the hills of himachal. If you would like visiting places of archeological, spiritual and historical interest, you may start with Himachal (You can have a glimpse of this amazing place on my blog here: http://hotbacteria.wordpress.com/canvas/hills-of-himachal . I would strongly suggest visiting Archeological society of India.
I got the oppurtunity to spend 2 blissful months in the ancient city of holy Ganges - Benares which is also known by the names of - Banaras, Varanasi & Kaashi and I was overwhelmed with the simplicity and warmth of the people of this holy city.
Places like manali, shimla would also be great. |
